I have been on a baking kick.  I guess it’s the frigid cold temperatures outside that are to blame.  I don’t think we have been above freezing for weeks.  So my solution to these frigid temperatures is to bake, bake, and bake some more.  Having the oven on all day seems to keep my house nice and warm, not to mention the yummy smells that waft through the house. 

So remember the Cinnamon Rolls I posted about last week?  Well, I woke up Saturday morning and was on a mission to bake up some yummy goodness! It started out great, until I stepped on a piece of glass and cut my foot open.  My husband accidentally broke a glass the night before and we thought we got all of it swept up, well turns out their was a small piece that was nested in our kitchen rug.  I happened to step right on it and it went all the way into the sole of my foot.  It was really small, so it didn’t do much damage, but it sure did bleed a ton.  So after that little mishap, I went back to my baking and whipped up these lovelies:

These are really quite easy and whip up rather quickly.  

The recipe is adapted from Gimme Some Oven


1 Cup Milk

1/4 cup of butter

3 1/2 cups flour

1/4 granulated sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1 packet of yeast or 2 1/4 tsp

1 egg


1/2 cup butter softened

1 cup granulated sugar

The zest of one orange


4 oz cream cheese softened
1 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar

2 Tablespoons of butter softened

2 Tablespoons of orange juice (freshly squeezed)

Zest of an orange

Combine milk and butter in microwave safe bowl.  Cook for about 1 minute until butter is melted and the temperature is warm.  Add sugar and yeast and stir.  Let it sit for 5 minutes,  In separate bowl put 1 1/2 cups flour and salt and whisk together.  Add in milk mixture and egg and whisk until combined.  Stir in remaining flour or enough flour until the dough starts to come away from the sides of the bowl.  Knead by hand for about five minutes.  Put dough into a bowl and sit in a warm place.  Let rest about 15 minutes.  

While your dough is resting, combine your filling ingredients in a bowl and mix until well blended. (I like to use a pastry cutter to combine all my ingredients together.)

After your dough is done resting, put onto a lightly oiled surface and roll out to 11″ x 14″ Then spread your filling evenly onto the dough.  Roll up tightly and then use dental floss or a sharp knife to cut into 12 even rolls.  

Put rolls into a greased pie plate or a 9 x 13 baking dish.  Place towel over the top and let rise in a warm place for 20-30 minutes. 

Bake at 350* for 15-20 minutes or until rolls are lightly golden brown. *do not over bake.

While your rolls are baking, combine your icing ingredients in a bowl and blend until smooth.  You can add more orange juice if you want a thinner consistency. 

Let rolls cool for about 5 minutes and spread on your icing. 

These are really yummy, and don’t have an overpowering orange flavor.  If you do want a stronger orange flavor, you could use orange marmalade for the filling instead.  

These were a hit at my house, and I can’t wait to try other filling mixtures in the future!
