Diamond Quilt Block Tutorial

Happy Monday!  Hope you all had a fun weekend!  I spent the weekend in my pj's working on projects here and there.  I finished up my pinwheels quilt and I worked on the tutorial I am sharing with you today!

So let's start!

Charlie's Finished Quilt

My blue-eyed cowboy has his cowboy hat and his cowboy quilt and is ready for some cuddles!

I finished his quilt last night and he loves it! I was kind of mean and didn't let him sleep with it last night because I wanted to make sure I could get some pictures of him with it in the morning.  :)

This was my first time machine binding. It was not perfect.  In fact, I'm sure a quilting expert would give me an epic fail on my binding on this quilt.  The corners turned out beautifully mitered, but when I went to stitch it to the quilt, my stitches on the front did not line up with the seam on the back. I did 2 1/2 inch binding strips.  I am not going to say I'm never going to machine bind a quilt again, but I do like the look of hand binding much more.

A full view of the front of the quilt:

For the back of the quilt I just pieced all my of my extra fabrics together as well as some black flannel to tie it all together.

This was kind of my "practice quilt" I tried new things on this quilt that I have never done before and it's definitely not perfect!  But it is perfect for my little cowboy, who I hope with love it and hopefully will replace his current blanket (which has seen much better days)  with this warm and snuggly quilt!

A Smattering of Projects...

I have three quilts in the works right now.

This is my first quilt that I have ever made.  The pinwheels are done and sewn together. I just need to add borders.  I am waiting on the line of fabric to come out in yardage so I can finish this baby up!

I love this line of fabric! It's so happy and bright! I especially love the florals in the line.  I am thinking of doing one of the borders with one of the florals that is in the line.

When I saw this fabric I instantly fell in love.  The colors are so vibrant and they really look great combined with the neutral grey colors.  I have about 8 starts completed and 12 more to go.  :)

I ordered a Christmas layer cake and got it over the weekend and put this quilt top together.  It's a giant star within a star.   It came together really fast because the pieces are so big.  I am not in love with the fabrics in this line.  I feel like the colors did not translate from my computer to what I got in the mail.  The fabric is pretty, but I wasn't completely taken with it.  That being said, I definitely want to make another giant star quilt, but use fabrics that are more my cup of tea! :)

{excuse the wrinkles!}

I am currently working on the back of for this quilt.  I had so many pieces of layer cake left over that I knew I could make a pretty cool back piece.

Quilted Halloween Owl Table Runner

I am not even sure if anyone knows this blog exists anymore!
I haven't posted a real craft for years.
I haven't really created anything for the last few years.
Life happens, and we get caught up in all sorts of things and things like crafting gets put on hold.
In my case it was put on hold for a couple of years.  But I just fell in love with a new type of "craft"

I just discovered quilting.
I'm hooked.
I have always claimed that I am not a sewer! I can barely sew a straight line!  But a few months ago, my mom and her friend got me hooked.  I learned everything about quilting from the most amazing lady.  If you haven't heard of The Missouri Star Quilt Company you are living under a rock! They are the absolute best! I love their tutorials and I have basically learned to quilt by watching their videos.  Jenny teaches them so well, anyone could follow them!

My first project was a little owl wall hanging, which I did a total hack job on the binding.
This was my second project and I am happy to report that the binding turned out beautifully because I followed this tutorial.

I am pretty darn proud of the fact that I did this entire thing by myself.  I designed it, quilted it, and I did the binding myself.

I love Halloween.  It's my favorite holiday to decorate for. I love the bright oranges, purples, greens, and yellows.  So I gathered a bunch of fabric scraps and bought a few fat quarters of fabric and put this together for Halloween.

It's a fun table runner, that will brighten my table during October! I can't wait to have it out and enjoy it all October long! :)

Dress to Child's Skirt {mini Tutorial}

I love making things for my kids!  It's not often that I sew things for Hannah, but I was feeling a little crafty and decided to try my hand at making her a skirt out of an old dress I had.

She loved it.
It only took me about 20 minutes to complete! Which is my kind of sewing! :)

This is a "mini" tutorial because I honestly am horrible at explaining how to sew things!

Disclamier: I am not a sewer.
I don't use technical terms at all.
I just hope you can understand it. :)

This is the dress I started out with.  I loved this dress, but it was a little too short for me and I was just going to get rid of it, but I decided that I could make it into a skirt for Hannah!

Step 1: Cut the top off and measure the the length and width to fit your child.  I made sure I left the bottom alone so that I didn't have to hem it.  I only cut down the middle to make it the size that I needed it.

Step 2:  After you have cut it to the size you need, sew the sides together and also hem the top to fit, but leave a little opening so that you can string your drawstring through.

Step 4:  I used the straps and some elastic to make the band in the skirt.

After you have your drawstring sewn together, string it through the skirt and sew it shut.

Doesn't she have the cutest little backside!

Now, we can't forget about my little man.  With some of the leftover dress I made him a tie onesie to match his sister.

Love the face Charlie is pulling in this picture!

So easy, and it didn't cost me a dime!

Terra Cotta Pot Transformation

Last week when I was working on this project, I decided my mom needed to spruce up her terra cotta pots.

We are trying to add color to her yard and this was the perfect project to add a splash of color!
Plus, they were super easy and only took about 15 minutes to make.

We started with plain terra cotta pots....

Then we painted them blue and red.

Just and FYI, don't leave the dirt in your pots when you paint them.
You WILL get dirt all over your paint. :)

Just thought I would let you know.

After your paint is dry, you can hot glue your rope all around your pot.

We did this three times.

Next, plant your flowers.
Our flower of choice:

So easy, and so much better than just a regular terra cotta pot!

Wishing Well Makeover

I am finally getting back on schedule after my vacation!

However, I really miss the sleeping in part.  I could really do that more often!

Today, I got to spend the day with my mom and we decided it was time to give her wishing well a makeover.

This was originally used as a water fountain sort of deal, but stopped working.

So I decided that it would be cute if we painted it and planted flowers where the water would normally go.

Here is the before:

Here is the paint color that my mom picked out.  Love it!

And here is the AFTER:

I love how it turned out, and I really love how bright it is! So much fun and it adds so much color to their yard!

Here it is in it's final resting place.

I am so happy with the way it turned out, and it was fun to spend the afternoon with my mom crafting! :)

You are a "Tee-rrific" Dad {Free Printable}

Last week I shared this over at Tatertots and Jello.  Thought I would share it here in case anyone missed it last week!

Father's Day will be here before you know it and I have the perfect gift idea for the Father's in your life.

My hubby LOVES to golf and so I wanted to make something special for him that involved his favorite hobby.

I did three different color schemes, so you can pick your favorite!

Let's get started!

Tutorial:

Supplies Needed

1 bag of tees
1 Tag
1 piece of coordinating card stock cut to the size of tee tag
Tape
Staples
Jute

Step 1:  Print your free printable here.  (this one is for the color scheme shown)
I have designed 3 different color schemes

Step 2: Measure the tag on the tees.

Step 3: Cut out your tags and cut out coordinating scrapbook paper to the size you measured.

Step 4:  Staple scrapbook paper to the bag.  (Try to staple in far enough that your tag will hide your staples)

Step 5: Tape your tag onto your scrapbook paper.  I used scrapbooking tape for this.

Step 5: Wrap jute around the bag loosely about 3 times and tie in the back.

Step 6: Tape your circle tag onto the front of the bag in the middle of jute.

And you're done!

Super simple and easy to make.

Linking up to these parties!
