Favorite Things Friday: My button collection and a Linky Party

This is a small glimpse of my button collection. You could probably say that I am obsessed with them. I started to collect them a couple years ago and my collection has grown and is now a little outrageous! :) I love using them and hey, if I ever lose a button on a shirt, I know that I could find a replacement. :)

Photobucket

I love crafting with them and most of my projects have buttons on them.

Some of my favorite button projects:

Vintage puzzle piece magnets Shamrock Tree
When I started doing Favorite Things Friday, I had the intent of making it into a linky party that everyone could enjoy. I wanted to announce that I'm going to start it next week! I am super excited about it, but kind of scared.

I have never hosted a linky party and I don't want it to be a complete failure. So please pass the word around! I don't expect a ton of links, I know it takes a while, so I will consider it a success if I get one link! :)

I want people to be able to share their favorite things. Whether it be their favorite craft they made this week, a recipe, or a product. Anything is game. So start thinking about it and be ready to post next Friday! :)

Here is my button if you want to add it to your sidebar! :)

Button Tree Artwork

I love going to the DI. (For those who don't know what that is, it's like a goodwill or thrift store.) I go there probably once a week. Some might say that's obsessive, but I love it. What I don't love, is the smell...i swear all thrift stores have a smell....and I am not very fond of it.

Anyways, I found a really great frame a couple months back and finally found a use for it. I don't have a before picture of the frame, but it wasn't anything great to look at. It was just a wood frame, but it had some character to it.

So to fix it up, I painted the same color as Hannah's dresser and then used some pink paint to distress it a little and then sanded it. Here is the frame after I finished it. I really love how it turned out and it will go perfect in Hannah's room.

Now, onto what I actually put inside the frame. I love buttons, actually I am obsessed with buttons. I am positive that I have more buttons than is probably necessary. Sometime I will have to take a picture of my button collection, but today I am going to show you my button tree.

I have made something very similar to this for fall decorations and such, but I have never made an everyday button tree. I love how it turned out. It is so simple, but it works.

Here is how I made it:

Supplies Needed:
Foam board
paint
brown cardstock
Green scrapbook paper
buttons
Mod Podge
Hot Glue

Step 1: Paint your base piece. I painted it plain pink and then later decided to add some light pink scrolls, and swirls to add something more.

Step 2: Cut out the tree and hills. For the tree I made this template. I just free-handed the hills.

Step 3: Cut out foam board for your background.

Step 4: Mod podge your tree and hills onto your foam board.

Step 5: Hot glue buttons onto your foam board. I like to lay mine out before hand to make sure I have them right where I want them and then I glue them on.

That's it! You could make this your own by using a different color scheme and background. I made this one to match Hannah's new room re-do. I love how it turned out and best of all Hannah loves it too! She told me it was "bootiful" when I showed it to her. :)

Vintage Puzzle Piece Magnets!!

I am so excited to share this project with you! A lot of people ask me where I get my ideas and to tell you the truth they usually just pop into my head at the most random times.

This project for example came to me the other night when I was putting my 2 year old to bed. I was sitting on the floor in her room and I noticed a puzzle on the floor that has been there for like 2 weeks now. The puzzle was missing some pieces so I immediately thought....wow I could make those into magnets! I was so excited about the idea that I started making them immediately and I haven't been able to stop!!!!

So here they are!

Here is the tutorial

Supplies needed:

Old puzzle pieces
Mod Podge
Scrapbook paper
Hot glue
Buttons
Ribbon
Magnets

Step 1: Choose your puzzle piece. The pieces I used are the thick wood puzzle pieces for childrens puzzles. You could also use other types of puzzle pieces!

Step 2: Trace your puzzle piece on your paper. I used all vintage looking paper.

Step 3: Cut out your paper.

Step 4: Apply a thin layer of mod podge on the top of your puzzle.

Step 5: Place your cut out paper on top.

Step 6: Place your piece upside down so it doesn't bubble. Sit it there until it's dry.

Step 7: Using a nail file, file the edges so you can get the excess paper off and that the paper is flush with the puzzle piece.

Step 8: Apply a thin layer of mod podge on the top to seal the edges. Let dry then distress your piece with some distressing ink.

Step 9: Hot glue some ribbon.

Step 10: add a paper flower and buttons for more embellishments.

Step 11: Hot glue your magnet to the back of the piece

And you're done!

Which one do you like the best?

PS: I have a big announcement coming up this week! So be sure to check back often! :)

Shamrock Tree with tutorial!

The other day I was at Michael's, which was kind of weird for me. I only go to Michael's when I can't find what I need at Robert's. So I was going down their dollar aisle and found so many cool things for a dollar! I snatched up a ton of things and can't wait to show you!

Anyways, I've made another St. Patrick's Day Project! Only this one only cost me $2.00 to make!!! I love it!!! It is so fun and cute and it was so easy to make!

Here is the tutorial:

Supplies Needed:

1 4x6 unfinshed wood frame (I found mine at Michael's for a buck!)
Paint
3 pieces of coordinating green scrapbook paper
buttons
ribbon
mod podge
hot glue
distressing ink

step 1: Take the inside out of your frame. We are going to mod podge everything on to this thick piece of chipboard.

Step 2: Paint your frame. I only did the sides and the inside where i can see. You will be coverin the rest with paper.

Step 3: While your paint is drying, cut out a piece of 4x6 paper that you want to use as your background. Then mod podge your piece of chipboard and place your piece of 4x6 paper on top and mod podge over it. This will seal the edges.

Step 4: While your mod podge is drying, cut out your tree, shamrocks, and the word "luck" (i used alphalicious with a 1 inch cut.)

Step 5: After your paint is dry, trace your frame onto the back of a piece of scrapbook paper that you want for the front of your frame and the cut it out.

Step 6: Apply a thin layer of mod podge on your frame and place the paper on top of that. Then apply another thin layer of mod podge on top of the paper.

Step 7: While your mod podge is drying, place your tree and shamrocks on your piece of 4x6 chipboard and mod podge the pieces on the way that you like it. Also hot glue on some buttons for more texture.

Step 8: Mod podge the word luck on your frame and hot glue some ribbon and buttons on the top.

Step 9: Distress!!!! I distressed mine like crazy! (MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS LAST!!! IF YOU DO IT BEFORE, THEN WHEN YOU MOD PODGE THE INK WILL RUN EVERYWHERE!)

And you're done!! How cute and easy is that!

I think I am officially ready for St. Patrick's Day!
