Hi there! I hope you all had a great weekend! My mom and sister came to visit and see our new house! So we had fun hanging out with them all weekend. We also started on our fence for our yard! Wahoo! I am taking pictures of all the progress, and will post soon.
So onto my latest finish. This quilt was made from a mistake. This was the center of a much larger quilt top that I had made. Unfortunately for some reason that quilt top would not lay flat. So I kind of just folded it up and forgot about it. Well, when were were moving, I found the quilt top and decided to give it a new life. I cut out the center granny square--and made it into a baby size quilt! And I pretty much love how it turned out!
The quilt measures about 36" square. I did meandering for the quilting on my own machine. I have decided that my sewing machine does not do well with meandering! The past two times I have tried to meander---I have had major thread breakage issues and my machine is skipping stitches. I don't know what I am doing wrong, if you have any ideas I would love to hear them!
I am thinking of making a pattern for this quilt. It is layer cake friendly, and super easy. Let me know if you'd like the pattern for this and if I get a pretty good response--I will post one!
Talk to you soon,

I love hoe the pic's turned out.....great job..Lind's
I would LOVE a pattern for this! It's beautiful.
I was having issues with breaking threads, both on my serger and on my sewing machine. I just had purchased new thread from Superior Threads, I got put the new thread and put it on my serger. It was a miracle. No more broken thread. The same with my sewing machine, I change the weight of the thread. According to what I have read from Superior Threads' newsletter the weight of the thread and the proper size needle are two of the major issues that cause broken threads. If you have the time, go to Superior .threads website and read all you can about the importance of the proper thread for each kind of sewing, serging, embroidering, and any other needle art and the proper size of needle used. Hope this helps.
Jody has some good tips. I usually only skip stitches when I'm going so fast. Same thing with breaking threads.
I would love the pattern. This is sooo pretty!
Love this!!! It's so cute!
My sewing machine is weird, what I thought should have a lower # on tension for meandering, my machine likes a higher #. Also, like Jody said, thread is the biggest issue - I love Sulky's thread and use it for all my quilting, it never breaks and it's silky so it flows better. Good luck!! :)
This Avery charming quilt. The colors are marvelous.
Love when we figure out how to use "oops" and create "ahhs!" Great job!
So pretty! I need one too!
The suggestion from Jody is a good one. It does have a lot to do with the thread and the needle. However, some machines are just finicky. I cannot use certain threads in my Viking.. just does not like it. And these same threads work wonderfully in my Jannome. It is sometimes just trial and error of what your machine likes. It is frustrating, I know - but getting the right needle with the right thread will also help. Good luck.
Thread is a big one, but so are needles, I free motioned a whole wall hanging, changed needles and went to free motion on my next project wight he same thread, I kept shredding and breaking, changed needles again, problem solved!! Love your quilt by the way, there is just something about the granny squares
What a cute pattern Lindsey...no real solutions on the thread breakages but I do find a new needle and a de fluff works wonders on weird stitchy issues...good luck
It's beautiful Lindsay!
What a sweet little quilt Lindsey and that is wonderful that you rescued a UFO and re-purposed it! Thanks for sharing.

I'm a huge HUGE fan of granny square quilts--this 9-patch granny square is genius. Seriously genius!
I agree with Jody--the Superior Threads has LOTS of valuable information about thread/needles, etc. Well worth doing some research there.
How stinkin' cute is that? And from a "mistake" no less. Not sure what the previous layout was, but I'd have to call this kismet. :)
I love granny square quilts, and this is a wonderful way to use that idea! I would love a pattern for it also!
I love layer cake friendly quilts! So yes:) Beautiful! As for thread breakage and skipped stitches...I have found this to be a needle issue. Try a different size or even just a new one and see if it helps:) PS I subscribe by email, and has been a while since I had an update so came to check and I missed so much! I have had a few tell me this too....not sure why that happens.
