Fall Pumpkin Table Runner

I had a rough weekend. I had these glorious plans of eating and sewing all weekend long.  However, my weekend did not quite play out that way.

I live in the middle of nowhere, USA.  Seriously.  The town I live in doesn’t even have a zip code.  Luckily we are about 10 miles from a larger town, which is still really small.  It’s been hard adjusting to the small town life, so we often head up North where most of our family lives and we go spend the weekends with family.

I had this grand idea that we should go up north this weekend since it was my daughter’s fall break.  We were going to go to my parent’s house and spend Thrusday-Sunday up there and my mom and I were going to sew until we couldn't see straight.

That did not happen.

We got there late Thursday night and the sneezing started.  I have really bad allergies.  I take several allergy medications and even then, animals still get to me.  So I figured since I haven’t been around my mom’s dogs in a while, I was just a little worse than usual.  Well, it just got worse and worse and the next day I could not stop sneezing and my whole face and sinuses hurt. I’m pretty sure I have a sinus infection.

Combine all that with an extremely ornery 1 year old who is teething, and my dreams of sewing and eating all weekend were shot.  Well, except for the eating part.  I’m pretty sure I did that.  In fact, that was the best part.  We went to Cafe Rio. (my most favorite place to eat) We also ordered Chinese take-out, my second favorite and polished off the eating fest with hot cookies and vanilla ice cream, my third favorite. :)

Besides eating yummy food, I pretty much napped and laid around all weekend long.  Oh and I forgot to mention the part where I pretty much single handedly ate an entire bag of shelled pistachios throughout the entire weekend. I’m almost certain that my mom is regretting the fact that she showed me the bag of said pistachios. Because everyone knows that pistachios are expensive, but already shelled pistachios--I don’t want to know how much that huge bag cost.

So in short, I didn’t sew anything all weekend long. In fact, I haven’t sewn since Wednesday.

However, that doesn't mean I don't have something fun to share with you all.   Because I do, and I'm pretty excited about it!

I want to introduce you to my mom:

Her name is Nettie, and she has also found a new love.

Quilting.
Yes, she has caught the fever.
I'm almost positive she has it worse than I do.

She has been busy making a ton of quilting projects!  So, while I was visiting her I photographed a bunch of her stuff to share with you all!

My mom has a different style than myself, so I thought it would be fun to share her passion of quilting with the blog world.

I'm calling this new series:

Nettie's Quilt Corner

So, when you see this handy dandy image you will know that Nettie made it!

So, I would like to share with you her first project:

It's called: Pumpkins on Parade
{Pattern by: Sandy Gervais}

This was my mom's first piecing project that she's ever done.  I thought she did a fantastic job.
I love the scrappy look of the pumpkins, and I really like her fabric choices.  It's a really fun and festive piece for fall.

For a beginner quilter, I thought she did a really nice job.  She quilted this on her Bernina sewing machine using a meandering pattern.

I have to tell you that I have the best mom ever, she not only made one runner, she put together four more for each of her daughters!
That means I have one of these little beauties on my table right now! :)

Isn't she awesome?

I can't wait to show you some more in the weeks to come! :)

Allergies are no fun! But it sounds like you had a decent weekend despite the suffering.

Love, love, love your Mom's work...guess you'll have to get her on a blogging bug next! How sweet that she made you all runners.

What Bernina does she have? I have one and it's been the best investment to date! It's so forgiving for my FMQ! =)

How wonderful that you are sharing the passion of quilting. She did a beautiful job on that table runner! My husband is from a small town, but it sounds larger than yours because his had a zip code.:)
