Dollar Store Nursery Decor

I have slowly been working on things for Charlie's nursery. I am still working on all of the bedding, blankets and burp rags and I have decided on a Jungle theme for his nursery. After spending a fortune on fabric for all of that, I decided I needed to try and make all of his nursery decor for as little as possible. I went to our local thrift store and found a perfectly good wood shelf and 4 frames all for 8 bucks!! I will be re-doing all of those in the coming weeks, but today I made some dollar store frames into some Jungle themed nursery decor!

Here is how I made them:

Supplies:

8 X 10 wood frames (I bought mine at the dollar store)
Paint
White cardstock
Painted Wooden Animals (I got these at my local craft store for .79 cents each)
Brown Ribbon
Hot Glue
Brown Cardstock

Step 1: Paint your frame

Step 2: Cut out the letters for your animals. I used my cricut cartride Jubilee and I cut them 2" long.

Step 3: Place your cardstock in your frame and then your glass BEHIND your card-stock. This creates a hard surface.

Step 4: Glue your letters on

Step 5: Hot glue your wood animal on your card-stock.

Step 6: Glue ribbon around the edges of your frame.

Each frame ended up costing me about $2.50 after they are all done! They were super easy and they will go great in his nursery! Now I just need to decide where to hang them!!

Ric Rac Burp Rag Tutorial

I think making your own burp rags are a must when you have a baby. The ones you can buy at the store are just not soft enough or big enough in my opinion. My mom just made her own pattern and so that's what I used for my burp rags.

Supplies:

2 Coordinating fabrics
Thread
1 package of ric rac (one package will do two burp rags)

Step 1: Make your pattern (you can find them everywhere)

Step 2: Trace your pattern on your fabric. We folded our pattern in half and our fabric in half then traced it.

Step 3: Cut out your burp rag

Step 4: On the right side of the top fabric, pin your ric rac along the edge of your fabric.

Step 5: Sew your ric rac on your fabric. You want to do it pretty close to the edge so that you are catching the top of the ric rac.

Step 6: Place your two pieces of fabric right sides together and then sew just inside of where you sewed your ric rac on. Be sure to not sew it completely shut, leave a couple of inches so you can turn it the right way.

Step 7: Turn it the right way and iron your burp rag.

Step 8: Top stitch all around the burp rag to close your opening and then iron.

These are so easy to make and they don't take long at all! I hope the instructions made sense! I am a beginner sewer and so I don't know all the terms that experienced sewers use! :) If you have any questions let me know! :)

Ric Rac Receiving Blanket

We found out we are having a BOY a couple of weeks ago and I have started on all of his blankets and all that fun stuff. You all know I am not a sewer, and so this is taking me way out of my comfort zone!!!

I have been searching for a while for cute boy blankets that aren't too feminine and this is the one I found that I fell in love with and decided to make.

She has made a great tutorial on it and you can check it out here.

I was going to try to do a tutorial, but hers is so much better so be sure to check it out.

These are so easy to make and that's saying something if you aren't a sewer! I didn't do an applique on mine because I thought it would be too busy so I just stuck with making the blanket. It didn't take me too long. Probably longer than most because I'm not a sewer, but still I was able to do it!

One thing that I have found so far is that there is not nearly the selection of cute boy fabric compared to girl fabric! Where do you get your fabric for your little boy projects?

Mini Love Album with Love Coupons

It was my Husband's Birthday this week and I was really having a hard time figuring out what to get him. I finally decided I would make something homemade and romantic. (he is a very romantic person--way more than i am!)

I made him a mini love album with pictures of us when we were dating and married. I also wanted to include some "love coupons" :)
Some of the coupons were:

1 Romantic Candlelight Dinner
1 Breakfast in bed
25 kisses (in the location of your choice)
1 Romantic date night
1 Romantic Movie Night

I got a lot of my ideas from the internet and made up some myself. I did eight coupons in all.

I really loved how it turned out and best of all he loved it! :)

This is the cover ( i haven't put a ring in it to hold it all together yet because I wasn't strong enough to punch the wholes in it! so if you are going to make one just punch a whole in each page and then use a binder ring or ribbon to bind it all together.)

For the second page, I made a pocket that holds all of the coupons!
On every page I tried to put a love quote on it and I tried to keep it simple.

I really love how it turned out! It was so easy, it took me a couple of hours to make and it will be something we can look at for years to come!
