Craft Night/Tutorial

We had our first craft night last Tuesday and we made some clothespin magnets. They turned out cute and I thought I would post a tutorial on how to make them.

Supplies Needed:
Clothespins
Magnets
Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge
Paint Brush (to apply mod podge)
Tacky Tape/Glue (E6000)
Ribbon
Buttons

Step 1: Trace Clothespin on scrapbook paper to fit the front of the clothespin and cut out using scissors or a paper cutter. (I used a paper cutter)
Step 2: Cut out flowers, hearts, or any other decorative shape to put on the front of clothes pin. (I used my Cricut Machine to cut out all of the shapes and used "George and Basic Shapes" the sizes I used were 2" for the outer layer of the shape and 1.5" for the inner layer. )

Step 3: Put a thin layer of Mod Podge on the front side of your clothespin
Step 4: Place cut out paper on top of layer of glue and apply another thin layer of glue on top of the paper.

Step 5: Brush on a thin layer of Mod Podge on the shapes you are using to glue them together.

Step 6: Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over both shapes to harden the paper.
Step 7: While your heart is drying. Apply some magnets to the back of your clothespin. I used Terrifically Tacky Tape or E6000 to do this. Let dry.

Step 8: Glue your heart on the front of your clothes pin. Use Tacky Tape or E6000 glue to do this. Let Dry.

Step 9: Tie a bow/knot on the top of your clothes pin, and glue on a coordinating button.

You can use these on a couple of different things:
Magnet Boards
Refrigerator Doors
White Boards

Kitchen Decor....

Since we've moved, I have put off decorating the Kitchen for a while because I have never had so much wall space in our other houses. This house however has so much wall space I don't know what to do with it all!! Anyways, I went up to Hobby Lobby and Thai Pan trading yesterday with a mission! To decorate my kitchen! I am a huge bargain shopper and so I bought a couple of very plain things and embellished them with some simple things.

Before

  • I monogramed the mugs and creamer pitchers with the letter W with some vinyl lettering that I cut out using my cricut machine.
  • The glass pitchers I just tied a small bow around the neck to make it tie in with everything else.
  • The shutters were spray painted black (by the hubby...i hate painting. Period.)
  • I made the small curtain with some left over scraps I had
  • The "Bon Appetit" was made with vinyl lettering as well as the coffee cups.
I was going for a cafe window kind of feel. So when I found the shutters I thought it would be perfect to make a faux window with a small curtain over the top to make it have that real window look. This project didn't cost me much. Here is the rundown:

Shutters $5/each
Black Shelves $10/each (these i got 50% off!!! )
Coffee Much $1.94/each
Creamer Pitchers 1.01/each
Glass Pitchers 1.91/each
Supplies I already had:
Fabric
Ribbon
Vinyl
Flowers
Black Vase
So the total cost for this project for me was: $39.72! Not too shabby!!!

Crayon Roll

I have had my eyes on this project for a while but have hesitated because it requires a little more sewing than i am used to. (i am slowly learning how to sew) But last night I wanted to start a new project and this is what I decided on. It was harder than I anticipated because I really don't know much about sewing, but I figured it out in the end and I could probably whip one of these up in no time now that I know what I'm doing!

Customized clip board

I made this customized clipboard to go in my kitchen. I am using it to write down things that we need at the store, and random notes. It was really easy and the clipboard only cost me .97 cents and I had all of the other supplies. So this project's total cost for me was .97 cents!

Customized Journal

Here are some customized Journals/Notebooks I made! They were super easy and cheap. The notebooks themselves are really cheap right now since school is right around the corner so I only spent 50 cents on each notebook and then I had all the scrapbook paper/supplies already so this project's total cost for me was $1.00!

Craft Club

Ok, so I have been working on this idea for a while and I would really like to start a craft club! This is how it will work: (this might look complicated, but it's really not i promise)

  • 1 day out of each month we will get together at the Host's house. (at our first meeting we will decide which day works best for everyone and we can keep it that day for every month or change it and decide on a month to month basis)

  • At our first get together everyone who wants to participate will bring 3 ideas of what they want to learn how to make or 1 or 2 things that they know how to make and would be willing to teach.

  • There is a $10 limit for each craft (we can change this if someone feels it's not enough)

  • Each month you will need to pay your $10 (or whatever amount we choose) to the Host that is going to be doing the following month's craft. (so you will pay 1 month in advance for your craft)

  • You obviously don't pay if you don't or can't do the next month's craft, but once you pay you are committed even if your plans change because the host has to buy all of the supplies in advance. (we can set aside all of the supplies for that craft and give them to you since you already paid but we won't refund anyone)

  • The host for that month is in charge of buying everyone's supplies for that specific craft and teaching how to make the craft.

  • The crafts that we decide to do need to be simple enough that we can finish it within a couple of hours OR if we decide on a larger or more complicated craft we can do it like on a Saturday afternoon when people have more time) Like i said we will decide things like this on a month to month basis and get everyone's input who is participating in the following month.

  • I don't want to forget the treats! Each month someone or a couple of people will be in charge of bringing some treats to share (whether it be homemade cookies or some chocolate candy bars, just something small that we can share with everyone)

So, if you would like to participate let me know by leaving a comment or emailing me at my email which is [email protected] If you have any suggestions leave that in the email or comment and let me know which day(s) of the week work best for you!

Bow Holder

I finally made a bow holder to hold all of the bows we are selling at Sweet Something's I used the same idea from Nannygoat but added a few extra things!! It was super easy to make and I had all of the supplies already so it didn't cost me a thing!

If you would like to purchase any of these bows you can go to www.handmadesweetsomethings.blogspot.com or email [email protected]
